Victoria’s Surkeus Records will no longer operate as a record label as of March 5, 2025.
The independent label made the announcement on their website and social media Thursday February 27, 2025.
In the statement, founder Josef Mieto said, “Although it’s sad to reach the end, this label & community will continue to motivate our endeavours in art, music, and lives going forward. Thanks to every one that helped and supported along the way.”
Surkeus Records launched in 2019 priding itself as not only a record label, but a community and artistic alliance. The record label focused mainly on physical releases of special recordings. They also partnered with local groups to fundraise and host charitable events in the five and a half years of operation.
More than 40 bands and artists are listed on the label’s roster and also includes writers, photographers and drag performers. A couple of Victoria artists on the roster have been Zone Band of the Month in recent years including Michael Wilford and Standard Issue Pleasure Model
