The Victoria BC Ska and Reggae Society has announced the lineup for Garden City Grooves 2024.

The 10th anniversary edition of the festival will take place Thursday February 15 to Saturday February 17, 2024 at White Eagle Hall in James Bay.

Kicking off the festival will be an ‘Amy Winehouse Extravaganza’ featuring The Capital Collective, a 14-piece all start band of local jazz and ska musicians from the likes of Lovecoast, Dope Soda, Current Swell, John & Roy and Miguelito Valdes. Supporting them will be Victoria hip-hop group Illvis Freshly and DJ I-Lot.

Night two is headlined by soul/R&B singer Tanika Charles. Charles previously performed at Victoria Ska & Reggae Fest 2022 opening for The Wailers. The Friday night will be a celebration of Black Canadian Music with Vancouver rapper Missy D, genre-defying Alpha Centauri and DJ Rossco opening.

The final night of Garden City Grooves 2024 will showcase a mix of blues, funk, hip-hop and jazz. The Harpoonist (aka Shawn Hall of Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer) will headline under his new project The Harpoonist & Co. The festival says the show will introduce “an exciting new twist on the work of The Harpoonist that includes a special musical surprise. Also performing the finale is XL The Band. Lead by Prevail and Rob The Viking of four-time Juno Award winning hip-hop group Swollen Members, XL The Band’s sound is a fusion of hip-hop, jazz and alternative. They recently performed at Rifflandia Electric Avenue 2023. Seattle veteran hip-hop heavyweights, Prometheus Brown and Khingz will kick off the night with Judah Roots DJing between sets.
