Multi-Juno award winning artist Lights had a little extra PEP in her step launching her cross-Canada tour at sold out Capital Ballroom in Victoria Tuesday night.
It was the first time Lights has performed in Victoria since Rifflandia 2018 and the first time she’s performed at a club venue in the city since 2011 at the then Club 9ONE9 (now Wicket Hall).

When doors opened at 8pm, a line of ticket holders was seen formed all the way down the block of Yates Street between Quadra and Blanshard Streets.

She kicked off her 22-song set at 10:15pm with PEP single ‘Salt and Vinegar’ in front of probably the largest LED screen that has fit in Capital Ballroom showing an image of the vending machine seen in the single’s music video. Lights followed that with the title track of her 2011 album ‘Siberia’ and 2014 single ‘Up We Go’.

Halfway through the set, Lights slowed things down for a few songs performing a solo rendition of ‘Second Go’ and stripped down versions of ‘Voices Carry’ and ‘February Air’. From there, the tempo picked back up with a series of songs back to back.

Fans sang along to both the old and new tracks and even turned on their cell phone flashlights during one song.

The show ended just before midnight after a two song encore.

Opening the evening was Toronto drag performer Tynomi Banks. The former Canada’s Drag Race contestant performed 30 minute show.

The tour continues across the country with many of the dates already sold out. The final show is in Montreal on February 17, 2023.
