The City of Victoria will present a Music Symposium on Rifflandia weekend Friday September 16 to Sunday September 18, 2022.

The series of free professional development workshops is a partnership between the city, Rifflandia, Music BC and Creative BC. It is also an action of the City of Victoria Music Strategy that was launched in November 2021.

There will be three workshops on September 16, two on September 17 and one on September 18. The workshops will be held at Hermann's Upstairs and Victoria Event Centre in the mornings and early afternoons before the music at the festival takes place.

UK artist manager and international music consultant Danny Keir will give insights on international music markets from 10am – 11am September 16th at Hermann’s Upstairs. Also on the Friday from 11am – noon, a panel of speakers from the UK will dig deaper into strategies for Canadian artists to break into the UK music scene. The final Friday session focuses on booking, showcasing and touring in the UK and Europe.

On Saturday, Creative BC will host a workshop at Hermann’s Upstairs with details about funding programs that are available to music professionals and how to apply. Over at Victoria Event Centre, Vancouver musician Dan Mangan will host a panel on how to make a tour more successful.

Sunday’s final workshop will be a a deep dive discussion on decolonizing the music industry. It will feature perspectives from BIPOC artists an industry experts.
