Sofar Sounds, a concert startup funded by venture capital from Richard Branson now has a branch in Victoria. The company calls itself a global community “creating a better way to discover live music.” According to the company website, the community currently includes 352 cities worldwide mostly run by volunteers.
What exactly does Sofar Sounds do? It’s essentially a network hosting secret intimate concerts. Think house concerts, but you don’t know where the location is until the day before AND you don’t know who is performing until you get there. Many shows are recorded on video and posted on the company’s YouTube channel.
The first Sofar Sounds events began in London, England in 2009 and shows have featured some major acts including Wolf Alice, Bastille and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The Victoria branch has been launched by Nicole Gagnon of Woodley Music. The first Victoria show is Thursday June 1, 2017. After some digging, we have discovered that Andi Stewart will be performing at the first secret show.
