Merlin’s Sun Home Theatre has been closed by the City of Victoria after the city received a complaint from a neighbour. The theatre was shut down due to activities (concerts) being hosted there do not meed zoning regulations.
In a note from the the theatre’s owners that Monday Magazine has shared on their website, owner Tim Gosley says they were not told why the neighbour complained and that filing to rezone would involve licenses and paperwork to make them a professional venue.
Merlin’s Sun Home Theatre is a house in the Fairfield neighbourhood that contains a 50-seat theatre. Gosley and his wife have owned the house since 2005 and have hosted numerous house concerts over the years.
Our question is, if this can happen to Merlin’s could other homes that host house concerts be one complaint away from being shut down as well?
