Laketown Shakedown is no more.

Festival organizers at Laketown Ranch announced in a statement on social media that they are transitioning away from the name and the weekend festival model to hosting more individual events between May and September.

Moving forward, the venue will be known as Laketown Amphitheatre. Laketown Shakedown’s Facebook page has already changed to the new name.

“Since 2016, the team at Laketown has strived to bring the music world’s brightest luminaries to Vancouver Island for Unforgettable performances in our amphitheatre,” said the Laketown team in their statement. ” We have and will strive to continually improve and evolve the experience for our valued guests. As a part of our evolution, we’ve decided to expand our horizons and look at all options for 2025 and beyond to maximize the benefits of having a permanent amphitheatre.”

The 250 acre multi-use entertainment complex and campground’s first major event was Sunfest 2016 that featured headliner Carrie Underwood.

Laketown Shakedown began as a smaller local-focused music festival on the May long weekend in 2018 headlined by Current Swell and Jon and Roy. The following year, the festival grew significantly bringing big American acts in Snoop Dogg and Incubus to the island.

From 2020 through 2022, the festival was forced into hiatus due to the pandemic, but returned in 2023 with Shaggy, Portugal, The Man and Third Eye Blind topping the bill. Last year, Gwen Stefani and Busta Rhymes headline what is now the final edition of Laketown Shakedown.

Laketown Amphitheatre’s social media has teased that some show announcements are coming soon.

Events already announced include the Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival June 13 to 15, 2025 and Sunfest Country Music Festival July 31 to August 3, 2025.
