Canadian rock supergroup Anyway Gang launched their first ever tour at Capital Ballroom in Victoria May 18, 2022. It was the second show ever for the foursome of Sam Roberts, Chris Murphy of Sloan, Menno Versteeg of Hollerado, and Dave Monks of Tokyo Police Club. Their only show had been at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto in 2020.

Kicking off the show with their 2019 debut hit ‘Big Night’ the band would also close out the show performing the song again, joking around about whether or not it was a bad idea.

The laughs were numerous throughout the set with the four frontmen roasting each other at various points of the show. At the encore break, Menno Versteeg joked that the reason the others were leaving the stage wasn’t really to wait to come back for encore, rather to hit the bathroom because they were old. The band was clearly having fun and so was the crowd. Smiles were frequent on stage and form the crowd.

Considering the caliber of rock royalty in the building it was a bit surprising the show wasn’t sold out. Even so, the band was impressed with how many did turn out on a Wednesday night.

Opening the night was Toronto musician Deanna Petcoff. The indie-rock artist recently released her debut album ‘To Hell With You, I Love You’.

Concert was presented by MRG Live
