1. Acres of Lions at Rifflandia 2015 – Reaction (September 19, 2015)

When I was walking over to Studio CMCT (Vic42 Studio) for Acres of Lions’ set I assumed I’d be arriving for the tail end of the set inside the venue, but as I approached the studio I saw a Jeep blocking the road and a large crowd outside only to discover Acres of Lions were just starting to perform outside on the sidewalk! The previous band had tripped a breaker causing power in the building to go out. With a few hundred people waiting to see the set, a decision was made to grab a generator, block off the road and perform outside. Technically it’s something that wasn’t sanctioned by the city, especially at one in the morniong. Many figured the impromptu setup would get shut down within the first few songs, but despite a the police driving by a couple times the show went for nearly the full set before venue staff and the band figured they shouldn’t push their luck any longer.

It was such a cool moment to obliviously walk into and be a part of. You know that Coca-Cola commercial with that girl walking into the convenience store again and again buying Cokes with names on them and then it ends in a spontaenous dance party in the street? This show as as close as I’ve been to experiencing that. The only things missing were confetti and a cute girl handing me a bottle of Coke with my name on it.
