‘NoMeansNo: From Obscurity to Oblivion: An Oral History’, a 384 page fully authorized oral and visual history of the highly influential Victoria punk band is now available for preorder on Kickstarter and at book retailers.
The book was written by The [email protected] morning show co-host Jason Lamb and Paul Prescott.
“It took 3.5 years, 500+ interviews, thousands of hours, thousands of dollars, dozens of people helping, 23,000 images to sort through and the biggest adventure of my life,” said Lamb in a post on social media. “I made so many new friends around the world, including my favourite band!”
Lamb interviewed all four members of NoMeansNo and people in their orbit including managers, roadies, fellow musicians, friends and family members. The book tells the story of the band’s inception in 1979 to their retirement in 2016. It will include photos, posters and memorabilia that has never been seen publicly before.
Comedian and Saturday Night Live alumni Fred Armisen has written the foreword for the book. The Backword is provided by NoMeansNo guitarist Tom Holliston’s fictional character W. Buzz Ryan. The alter ego was featured in liner notes of the band’s albums, press releases and radio ads.
A Kickstarter campaign was launched to help offset printing costs. Perks in the campaign included a limited edition hardcover signed by all members of NoMeansNo and Lamb. The 160 signed copies sold out immediately. Other perks include other punk books and a NoMeansNo t-shirt designed by legendary punk artist Winston Smith. With a goal of $13,478, the campaign has already raised more than $50,000 in its first day.
The book will be available in paperback, hardcover and e-book.
The estimated delivery date for Kickstarter backers is estimated to be December 2023.
