The Victoria Jazz Society has announced the full lineup for the 2024 TD Victoria International JazzFest.
This year marks the 40th anniversary and 41st edition of the music festival and will span ten days and nights from Friday June 21 to Sunday June 30, 2024.
JazzFest’s ‘Marquee Series’ will feature headliners Booker T’s Stax Revue (with Blue Moon Marquee), Ziggy Alberts, Morgan James & Take 6, and Veronica Swift (with Kjetil Mulelid Trio).
Bullen Park, Hermann’s Jazz Club and Beacon Hill Park’s Cameron Bandshell and Hotel Grand Pacific’s Fathom Lounge return as venues for the festival. The Strathcona Hotel’s Wicket Hall will be a new venue for JazzFest.
Bullen Park will have three evenings of ticket shows that the JazzFest is calling the ‘Funk & Soul in The Township’ series with performances by Sunny Jain’s Wild West East, Avataar, MarchFourth, Tight Hair, Five Alarm Funk and Grapefruit is Impossible. The park will also host a free triple bill birthday bash on Thursday June 27 with Busty & The Bass and local favourites BlasĂ© BlasĂ© and Downtown Mischief. Bullen Park will also have eight free afternoon performances on the final weekend.
Victoria’s iconic Hermann’s Jazz Club will host the ‘Presentation Series’ for eight nights featuring some award winning musicians including Marc Atkinson Trio featuring Becky Prokova, Audrey Ochoa, Laura Anglade Quartet, Bellbird, Konrad Agnas Quartet, Eliana Cuevas & Jeremy Ledbetter, Hilario Duran Trio, and Scott Hamilton with Triology. Wicket Hall will feature Cory Henry, LA LOM, Lakecia Benjamin with Attila Fias Trio, and Ulysses Owens Jr. & Generation Y.
Cameron Bandshell will be the venue for 10 free performances taking place the first weekend afternoon of the festival.
Along with the live music TD Victoria International JazzFest will have free workshops and clinics at Esquimalt Recreation Centre hosted by artists performing at the festival including ex-Snarky Puppy keyboardist/vocalist Cory Henry, members of Take 6, saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin and drummer Ulysses Owens Jr.
With a $1.3 million operating budget for 2024, the festival hopes to attract more than 35,000 people to Victoria’s longest running multi-day music festival.
