In a statement made on Facebook on Sunday June 17, 2018, The New Groovement announced that original band member Dan ‘Danimal House’ Howse is stepping down as rapper/MC of the band after six years with the group. In a statement on his own Facebook profile, Howse says that, ” I have had a fantastic time playing tunes with the Groove for the last 6 years. Unfortunately, I am only one person with so much time, and I haven’t been able to give the project the time it deserves!” Howse is in Victoria hip hop group Illvis Freshly.
Taking his place will be Shane Blaq (Shane Battley). Shane Blaq has collaborated with electronic artist Battery Poacher and Victoria brass band The Brass, and is the organizer for Lucky Bar’s Hip Hop Karaoke. Blaq made his live debut with The New Groovement at Car Free YYJ.
Dan Howse’s exit from The New Groovement comes a little over two years after original vocalist Theresa Pasaluko stepped down and Steph Wisla joined the band.
