Tickets to what could be The Tragically Hip’s final tour went on sale to the general public today (June 3, 2016) across the country and sold out in minutes.

Here in Victoria, even before the clock struck 10am when the sale started, buyers were stuck in a virtual waiting room.

By 10:30am selectyourtickets.com’s homepage showed that they were “out of inventory” for ‘Hip tickets.
The Tragically Hip- No More Inventory

As an experiment we waited in the virtual waiting room until the website finally loaded the page. We got in the queue at 9:54am and the website didn’t load until 11:11am, well after tickets sold out.

It wasn’t all bad news for ticket buyers. There were a lucky few that physically lined up at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre’s box office and were able to get tickets. The arena issued draw tickets between 8:30 and 9:25am. At 9:30am one ticket number was drawn. The person holding that ticket was placed first in line with everyone else lining up behind sequential order of the draw ticket number

@diamondsshimmer on Twitter ended up sixth in line. You can see the line of people behind her in the tweeted picture below

We contacted her after tickets sold out to find out how she did. She was able to buy front row tickets. It’s unknown how many people in the physical line were able to get tickets, but it must have been at least six.

Just before 11am Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tweeted that tickets were officialy sold out, but they also announced that more tickets could possibly be released once the final production layout is completed. When more tickets might be released is unknown.

There are already more than 60 tickets on the secondary market priced between $450 to $1500 US. That’s more than ten times the original sale price!
