“After tremendous thought and consideration, I have decided to announce that I’ll be leaving Mindil Beach Markets and moving on to the next phase of my life. It was a difficult decision to make, but I know it’s the right call for me. Between my activities in MBM and my work as Executive Director of The Jellyfish Project, I’ve simply had too much going on in the last year to effectively balance both activities. There’s only so much time in each day! I’ve decided to simplify my life and follow my passion as an environmentalist. Therefore, I’ll be focussing my energy into the growth and expansion of The Jellyfish Project.

Playing music with Pat, Matt, Rod, and Cam for the past five and a half years has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life and I’ll forever cherish the memories that we made. I’m not leaving because of personality conflicts, creative differences or anything of that nature. MBM are my brothers and we will remain close friends forever.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the band on the journey so far and I look forward to joining MBM’s growing fan base!”

It’s difficult to express how we’ve all been feeling after the news of DK’s departure. I think we were all craving some sort of change, but maybe not something as drastic as this. After a month of reflection, we’re feeling excited and have already started working on the band in its new form.

We played our final show as a five-piece last Saturday in Cobble Hill and it was the perfect goodbye to our brother. A lot of our closest friends joined us for the snowed in night at the Cobblestone Pub and it was a great reminder of all that we’d accomplished over the last five years. We played some of our oldest songs for the last time, giving our relationship, that we sometimes compared to a marriage, closure. We’ll still be working closely with DK on The Jellyfish Project and both parties agree that the band and the organization can now be two fully functioning entities.

We only have a couple of JFP presentations left this year and then we’ll be heading into a recording session at Fader Mountain with the illustrious Paul Boechler. We’re anxious to get back to our jam room on the Sunshine Coast. It’s been a goal of ours, since before the split, to create as much new music as possible over the spring/summer. That hasn’t changed.

DK, we love you. Thanks for everything you’ve contributed to the band and our lives. You will always be an honourary member of our band.

Thanks for everyone’s continued support. We hope you’re just as curious as we are about the new phase of MBM!
