Victoria metal band Spiritbox and Victoria indie folk duo Ocie Elliott are nominated for Breakthrough Group of The Year for the 2022 JUNO Awards. They are just two nominees with Victoria and Vancouver Island ties announced Tuesday morning.

Spiritbox is also nominated for Metal/Hard Music Album of The Year along with Archspire, a metal band founded by Oak Bay’s Spencer Prewett. Former Victoria artist Alex Cuba is up for Global Music Album of The Year and UVic alumni Hannah Georgas is nominated for Adult Alternative Album of the Year.

Other Vancouver Island connected artists nominated for awards include Half Moon Run and The Fretless.

The 51st Annual JUNO Awards will be broadcast on the CBC from Toronto Sunday May 15, 2022.
