Victoria’s Northcote (singer-songwriter Matthew Goud) has released his new single ‘Streets of Gold’ available for streaming.

‘Streets of Gold’ is off his upcoming album ‘Let Me Roar’ that is due out Friday October 23, 2020. The song is described as a Springsteen-esque ballad. It was inspired by Goud’s musings while observing Victoria’s Pioneer Square.

“During the day, you can observe folks seeking shade and rest beneath the trees in Pioneer square and at night you can see the park serve as a bedroom for some of the cities houseless,” said Northcote. “This song is a poem of reflection upon the scenes of Pioneer Square, as well as, the opioid crisis here in British Columbia, missing and murdered indigenous woman and girls in Canada, and youth suicide.”

Northcote says he’s trying to shift his focus from the vulnerable back on to the empty and vapid nature of excess wealth.

The single was premiered by American Songwriter.
