Laketown Shakedown 2019 Local Artist Preview


With most of the hype with going to the likes of Snoop Dogg, Incubus, Sublime with Rome, and Smash Mouth performing at Laketown Shakedown this year, we’d like to put the spotlight on the Victoria talent that rounds out the festival lineup.
Here is your Laketown Shakedown Local Artist Preview for Laketown Shakedown 2019 happening at Laketown Ranch in Lake Cowichan BC Friday June 28 to Sunday June 30, 2019.

Friday June 28, 2019
Jesse Roper – “The Metchosin One” Jesse Roper is one of the most popular local musicians in the region. His shows are always high energy with a with a high possibility he’ll break a guitar string. His music has also been noticed south of the border. An American Idol contestant from Nashville performed his song ‘Anytime of Night’ to win over the judges in the audition round of the TV reality series.

Diamond Cafe – Victoria’s Tristan Thompson made a bit of a musical transformation a two years ago. After releasing two albums as a teenager in the pop realm (think N Sync/Justin Bieber sound), his current project Diamond Cafe is more in the Prince/Michael Jackson territory.

Mt. Doyle – Mt. Doyle is a Victoria DJ and is the resident DJ for Victoria hip hop group Illvis Freshly. Last year at Sunfest, he was injured when someone threw a Jack Daniels bottle at him, striking him in the head. He was bleeding, but kept performing after getting quickly stitched up. He’ll DJ the Lake Night Stage Friday and be with Illvis Freshly Sunday.

Sideway – Sideway is a Victoria based but Aussie-born bass music producer. He’ll be opening the Lake Night Stage Friday night.

Stevie Wise & The Big Feelings – Stevie Wise & The Big Feelings have had a busy 2019, winning a spot to perform at Song & Surf in Port Renfrew followed multiple gigs in Victoria including Car Free YYJ and FernFest. Lead vocalist Stevie Wise has had an even busier year splitting time with the Big Feelings, The New Groovement and even a couple guest sspots with The Leg-Up Program.

DJ Murge – DJ Murge has performed in the club and festival scene in the region for well over a decade and knows how to keep the party moving. He most recently performed his ‘Golden Era’ show at Car Free YYJ featuring classic rap hits performed with Ishkan and Ashleigh Eymann.

BOUSADA – BOUSADA is a Victoria live electronic artist and multi-instrumentalist. He has performed both on his own and with a band and guests.

Jennay Badger – Jennay Badger is a Victoria based DJ who began her career in Campbell River in the mid to late 2000s. She’s performed at Rifflandia, Cumberland Wild and numbers club shows. In 2017 she formed a dance collective caleld Influx.

Sunday June 30, 2019
Cities – Cities are a cover featuring Adam Kittredge and Antonia Frybe-Smith along with jazz musicians brass musicians Nick La Riviere and Miguel Valdes. The band has performed at Canoe Brewpub, the Breakwater Barge and at various events.

Illvis Freshly – Illvis Freshly are a hip hop band featuring emcees Doc Zoo and Danimal House with guitarist Phil Lyons and DJ Mt. Doyle. A former Zone Band of The Month, the group recently released their new single ‘Back It Up’

LIINKS – LIINKS are duo Georgia Murray and DWhiz. The couple were a featured as a Bell Media Future Star in 2014 and released their debut album Ridge Road last fall. They have also recently collaborated with other artists like The Funk Hunters and Sparkee

Neon Steve – Neon Steve is a DJ/producer who has hosted a number of popular events at Capital Ballroom in recent years. He’s performed at Burning Man, multiple times at Shambhala and numerous other shows and festivals in 15 different countries.

Degree One – Degree One is a Victoria hip hop DJ who has been in the music scene for more than 25 years.

Other Vancouver Island bands include Port Alberni’s Lance Lapointe Band and the Cowichan Valley’s Lost Octave.
