In a statement made on their website, organizers of Tofino and Ucluelet’s Otalith Music Festival announced, “Otalith will not look the same in 2018 as we will be taking a break from the festival format. We do still plan on throwing smaller club shows in Tofino and Ucluelet.”

The statement also includes a list of thank yous to various supporters of the event. It is unclear when the statement was originally published. The festival’s social media has been inactive since October 2017.

Since 2013, Otalith has featured performances from headliners Talib Kweli, Bright Light Social Hour, The Black lips, Shakey Graves, Fidlar and The Cave Singers to numerous local bands from across Vancouver Island attracting up to 1500 festival-goers each year.

Otalith joins a string of island festival hiatuses that have happened in the last year including this year’s Tall Tree Music Festival and last year’s Rock The Shores and Rock of The Woods festivals.

2018 would have been the Otalith’s 6th edition. Will it come back with the festival format next year? The statement concludes with, “And… stay tuned for 2019.”
