Victoria Folk/Rock group The Archers have announced in a Facebook event that their performance at Rifflandia 2015 will be the band’s last. Formed in early 2010 by Sandy Hughes and Ethan Caleb at Stelly’s Seondary, The Archers gained early success and acclaim in 2011 receiving awards and gaining air play on CBC Radio after releasing their “Much More Than Merry Men” EP.

In 2012 The [email protected] named The Archers their Zone Band of The Month for June 2012, awarded ‘Act to Watch for 2013′ by Victoria’s Times Colonist and Monday Magazines’ favourite “Emerging Artist/Band”. In November of 2013, bass player Robert McMullen announced his departure from the band. The Archers went on to release their full-length album ‘These Wicked Woods‘ was released in April of 2014.

The reason for the split has not been made public, but members of the band do have other music projects on the go. Ethan Caleb is in Morning Show and Liam McLaren is in Zoo Riots.

The Archers:

Below is the statement posted in the Facebook Event for their farewell Rifflandia performance:
After over a year of hiatus we’re officially announcing our bands retirement. We’ve had a good run, and we’ll always be thankful to the people who helped us along the way and made things happen for us that we would never have been able to make happen ourselves. Such people as the folks over at Atomique Productions and Rifflandia are high on that list of those to thank. They’ve been kind enough to set the stage and give us one last slot in their beauty of a festival so we can go out with a modestly sized bang.

Come one come all. This is it. One last hoorah.”
